It’s week three of doing 52 new things in 2022.
We’ve got a pretty busy weekend ahead so keeping this one pretty simple. I think next week I’ll try and aim for an adventure so stay tuned for that!
One of the beautiful things about buying spices is the ability to make your own spice mixes. Most recently we decided to have nachos but realized we didn’t have a taco seasoning mix. A little bit of googling and now we’ll never have to buy it again!
If you also want to be free of buying the packaged taco mix you’ll just need to invest a little time into a trip to Bulk Barn (or whatever your favourite place to buy spices is) and a container to store your blend in.
Here’s What You Need:
1/2 Cup Chili Powder
1/4 cup Onion Powder
2 Tbsp Garlic Powder
2 Tbsp Cumin
1 Tbsp salt (I used regular table salt)
1 Tbsp black pepper
1 Tbsp smoked paprika (regular paprika probably would work just as well)
Here’s What You Do:
Put it all in a bowl, stir, then put it in your container (I used a funnel to make it easier to get the spices in the jar).
Next time I make this I’ll double the recipe to be sure to always have enough on hand.
To Use:
Put this on all your favourite taco & nacho proteins.
We added about 2tbsp and a 1/2 cup of water to a pound (or so of ground beef) for our nachos and it was terrific! This also worked well with veggie ground round.

This is awesome! I did this as Christmas gifts a few years ago. One year I did my great grandmas spice blend and another year I made my custom Italian….my Italian beats anything you can buy;-)
