Review: Local Box

We all know that COVID has been a challenging time but through the challenges there have been some really interesting innovations and changes to the way business is being conducted. One of the most interesting local innovations I have come across is the Local Box.

The Local Box is the creation of Craft Culture, the group that organizes Kelowna’s largest craft markets as well as a collection of smaller “pop up” markets throughout the year. When COVID hit these events had to be cancelled but Craft Culture came up with a great way to still be a venue to support local makers and developed the Local Box.

Each month the box has six or seven hand crafted items, mainly from the BC Interior. So far the boxes have been female focused with earrings, skin care and one month a kimono style beach cover up. Other items have ranged from candles, soap, beeswax food covers and a food item in each box. Craft Culture also releases at least two spoilers each month and does a full reveal on there social media after all (or at least most) of the boxes have been picked up.

So far we’ve been really happy with the items in each box, every month there is at least one “must buy again” or “this is a great gift idea” item. Several items that I love I don’t think I would have stopped to look at during the market so that has been a great bonus to this as well. There have also been some misses for us – things that just don’t fit our lifestyle/interests – but that is the risk that you take with a box like this!

Here are a few of our most loved items from the past boxes (clearly June was our favourite! )
Skin Fuel Face serum from Wild Beauty (July)
Earrings (July) from Whimsy and Lou
Lip Balm (July) from Crush Candles
Candle from Okanagan Candle Co(June)
Soap with an amethyst in it (September) from the House of Phoenix
Bees Wax Food Wrap from Heart & Hearth (June)
Unami Crave the Fifth finishing sauce (June)

Looking forward to continue supporting artists and The Local Box for as long as they are putting them together!
