If you are coming to Kelowna for vacation, or live here already, you probably know about the great family cycling up at Myra Canyon on the Kettle Valley Railway Trail. But you might not have enough time to get up there or maybe aren’t ready for a longer ride (pretty much required to really get out and along the the trestles) and still want to want to get out for a family ride, so why not take a spin along the Mission Park Greenway.
Mission Park Greenway on a Sunday Morning
We recently headed out on a Sunday morning for a family ride. We parked at the H2O rec centre and hopped on the trail there. It’s a flat ride along a well developed trail system, wide enough for two way cycle, with lots of places to stop and take breaks (necessary when cycling when kids). A great map of the park can be found here. You won’t need a map for your ride though, it’s pretty easy to navigate.

Along the way you’ll find several sculptures from a series called “flow” as well as sign posts pointing out local flora and fauna. I’m sure there must be more to the blue sign posts along the way, the ones we looked at were numbered and had a small picture and the name of the animal or vegetation that was pictured, I believe more information on the signs can be found at the Environmental Education Centre.

If you do this ride in the fall you might also get see the salmon spawning upstream as well as it is one of the natural spacing spots in the region.
There are great bridges close to the Environmental Education Centre that allow a great view of this natural wonder in late September.
Wide open pathways make this a great ride for families – lots of space for riders to pass and enough space to pull off the main path for a break.

Pump Track at the Mission Creek Bike Park. A nice break in the wooded pathway for everyone to enjoy!
