So, this is probably the only essential oils post I will ever create. I’m not one of those moms that think oils will cure everything, but I do know that eucalyptus steam does make me feel better when I have a cold, so I wanted to share my shower melt “recipe” with you!
This is probably the simplest cold “remedy” out there – it’s just baking soda, water and essential oils. I like to use Eucalyptus and either peppermint or a citrus one (depending on what I have on hand). I make a tray of these in the fall to have on hand when I need that extra pick me up during cold season. You just add them to your shower, let the hot water dissolve them and release the sinus clearing vapour and then get on with your day (and medicate however you want after that).
All you need:
– 1 cup of baking soda
– about 3 tbsp of water
– 30 drops of essential oils
-Silcone ice cube tray or cupcake liners
Here’s what you do:
Mix everything together in a bowl. I like to add the drops to the baking soda and then mix in the water a little at a time until it forms a thick paste type substance. Spoon this into the ice cube trays or cupcake liners and let harden. Occasionally I add a bit too much water and it rises to the top of the tray, I find gently placing a paper towel over the tray to absorb the water helps remove this.
Give it about 24 hrs and then gently remove from the tray. Store in sealed container (mason jar or gladware container will work) and use as needed.
Only a few basic ingredients for this home remedy! Although not photogenic, these little shower melts pack a powerful punch.
